Abstract: Emancipation has long been a topic in theistic and non-theistic religions around the globe while the presence of diverse interpretations of and ways towards it tells us the amount of interest people had in liberating themselves. The Indian philosophy is no exception in proposing and debating paths to emancipation for over a few millenia. A proponent of the non-dualistic philosophy or Advaita Vedanta, Bhartṛhari (fl. 500 – 700 CE) in his dense work entitled Vākyapadīya expounds a novel way to emancipation through the proper recognition of the language in use that creates the phenomenal world. His thoughts as a grammarian and a philosopher largely influenced both formation and transformation of at least a large part of what we know today as the Indian philosophy of language. The discourse perspective clearly observed in the Vākyapadīya that the language in use represent the most unpolluted form of language, which is comparable to the characteristics of the supreme reality, enabled Bhartṛhari to propose a normative guide to emancipation with the support of yogic practices that were already current during his time. The objective of this study is to examine succinctly how Bhartṛhari delineates his guide to emancipation through the proper understanding of descriptive grammar, which he recognizes as the true form of the language we use.

Abstract: This paper examines the causes of the Niger delta crisis in Nigeria and assesses the impact of the crisis on the effort at building a strong and virile state where every citizen will have an undoubted feeling of belonging. The amalgamation of over 350 ethnic-nationalities into one nation state, Nigeria in 1914 marked a watershed in the history and politics of the country. Three other phenomena namely the struggle for political independence by the nationalists, the emergence of the oppressed and dominated minorities in the political and economic arrangements of the country , and the struggles for self-determination and resource control by the minority groups, particularly in the Niger-Delta region of the state became central issues. Communities in the Niger-Delta since independence are faced with political instability, ecological degradation, and wide spread poverty; leading to lack of allegiance to the country. Ethnic suspicion and antagonism which has grievous implications for national integration became the order of the day in Nigeria. This paper submits that enduring peace and stability in the Niger delta region of the Nigerian state is a major factor for sustainable national integration. This could only be accomplished with a resolute political will and determination by the citizens and government at all levels of governance in the country to see and treat Nigerians as the same people irrespective of the place of birth or ethno-regional affiliation.

Abstract: This paper examines some of the theoretical foundations of historical processes in the application of the Shakespeare vision, through which plays became the actual collective memory of the events they envision, even when those events are distorted. The debate over this distortion has focused on the possible political motives for applying Shakespeare. That this application on political intention, with official powers largely ignored the impact of these historical distortions was over 400 years later. I suggest that, because of Shakespeare's unique place in the historical calendar for the development of collective memory, Shakespeare's historical twisting application in history plays is a byproduct of the emerging ability to access historical sources while also shaping the emerging collective memory. Shakespeare became archon, in the sense of the Deriding, of English history. As such he exercised an interpretation of Areton's right to interpret English history.

Abstract: Family violence is a daily reality for millions of families around the world including Nigeria, affecting Nigerian children of all ages, all social contexts and in every part of their lives — their homes and families, schools, institutions, and communities. Family violence is a health, legal, economic, educational, developmental, and, above all, a human rights issue. The paper, therefore, focuses on family violence as one of the most prevalent yet relatively hidden and ignored forms of violence globally. The paper looks at the meaning of family violence, forms of family violence, its impact on the education of the Delta State children of Nigeria and strategies for preventing family violence. It also recommends the need for coordinated and integrated efforts among scholars in educating Nigerians on the deadly effect of family violence on educational development of the Delta State children of Nigeria.
